Whereas, many great American men and women, as instrumental leaders in the creation of American history, were people of high caliber and integrity who did not hesitate to express their faith; and

Whereas, Christian Heritage Month provides our citizens with an opportunity to acknowledge blessings, to contemplate and offer solutions to the numerous challenges society faces and to be rededicated to our nation’s spiritual ancestry;

Now, Therefore, I, Gary R. Herbert, Governor of the State of Utah, do hereby declare November 25 through December 25, 2010 as Christian Heritage Celebration

Be it Known: That on behalf of the citizens of this State, in recognition of a special and joyous tribute to honor Thanksgiving Week – November 21-27, 2010, as a time of celebration and observance of Christian Heritage Week; and as the people of Maryland join together in expressing our sincere best wishes for a rewarding and memorable celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday season, we are pleased to confer upon you this Governor’s Citation

WHEREAS, Thanksgiving week marks the nineteenth consecutive Christian Heritage Week in West Virginia; continuing a tradition of annual proclamations beginning with Governor Gaston Caperton in 1992 thru 1996 and continued by Governor Cecil Underwood from 1997 thru 2000, Governor Bob Wise from 2001 thru 2004 and Governor Joe Manchin from 2005 thru 2010; and,

WHEREAS, 115 mayors from 90 cities, towns and villages throughout West Virginia have proclaimed Christian Heritage Week since 2001; and,

WHEREAS, local churches are asked to participate with relevant Sunday School lessons, sermons, patriotic song services, youth programs and prayer meetings;

NOW, THEREFORE, Let it be Known that November 21-27, 2010, is hereby proclaimed as:

WHEREAS, this nation was founded on principles of religious freedom and our founding fathers sought God, his blessings and guidance as they established these United States of America as a free and independent nation; and

WHEREAS, the Christian heritage of our nation is recognized in the writings and accomplishments of such renowned individuals as Christopher Columbus, William Bradford, George Washington, John and Abigail Adams, James Madison, Patrick Henry, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and countless others, and in the constitutions of the several sovereign states, and innumerable public documents; and

WHEREAS, the history of Christian faith and traditions of our people is reflected in countless practices of the institutions and officials of our government, such as prayer and Scripture reading preceding each and every session of Congress, from its inception until this day; and

WHEREAS, the importance of our Christian heritage to the institutions, values and vision of our nation is immeasurable, and teaching our children about the spiritual values of our historical Christian heritage will help them understand and appreciate our nation’s history; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize the Pilgrims’ First Thanksgiving as a special time and reason for celebrating our families, health, love and friendship, as well as acknowledging our nation’s Christian heritage; now

THEREFORE, I, M. Jodi Rell, Governor of the State of Connecticut, do hereby proclaim the week of November 21 – 27, 2010 as
