STATE OF NEW MEXICO EXECUTIVE OFFICE SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO
Proclamation
WHEREAS, the Preamble to the Constitution of New Mexico affirms, “We the people of New Mexico, grateful to Almighty God for the blessings of liberty”; and
WHEREAS, shaped by Christian principles our constitution is the most precious possession we hold, or our future can inherit; and
WHEREAS, Christianity has had significant influence on the history and rich cultural heritage of New Mexico and the United States; and
WHEREAS, many of our Nation’s leaders and prominent figures who helped to shape America were guided in their work by the principles of the Christian faith; and
WHEREAS, historical records document the fundamental role of Christianity in the establishment of the United States, its structure, and its principles, including the voluntary exercise of the freedom of religion; and
WHEREAS, it is important for New Mexicans of all faiths to understand the Christian heritage of our State and Nation in order to have a full appreciation of our roots as Americans and the factors that have shaped our history;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bill Richardson, Governor of the State of New Mexico, do hereby proclaim November 4-10, 2007 as:
“Christian Heritage Week”
throughout the State of New Mexico.
