PROCLAMATION
By the Mayor
WHEREAS: Thanksgiving week continues the long tradition of Christian Heritage Week in West Virginia. Which began with annual proclamations from Governor Gaston Caperton in 1992 and has been continued by Governor Cecil Underwood from 1997 through 2000, Governor Bob Wise from 2001 through 2004 and Governor Joe Manchin through 2005; and
WHEREAS: Christian Heritage Week in West Virginia has become an annual local and statewide observance and has became the most popular and most requested proclamation according to the Office of the Governor; and
WHEREAS: The state song, West Virginia, My Home Sweet Home, contains the lyrics,“There I work, and I play, and I worship Sunday;” and
WHEREAS: Psalm 127:1 reads: “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain”; and,
WHEREAS: Area churches are encouraged to celebrate Christian Heritage Week with relevant Sunday School lessons, sermons, readings of the proclamations, youth programs, patriotic song services and prayer.
NOW, THEREFORE, I Danny Jones, Mayor of the City of Charleston, do hereby proclaim November 20-26, 2005
Christian Heritage Week
in the city of Charleston, West Virginia and I invite all citizens to join in this event according to their own faith and traditions.
