ARIZONA CHRISTIAN HERITAGE WEEK

WHEREAS, the Preamble of the Constitution of the State of Arizona states that “We, the people of the State of Arizona, grateful to Almighty God for our liberties, do ordain this Constitution”; and

WHEREAS, the protection of religious freedom in the United States is guaranteed to all Americans by the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights in the Constitution of the United States, and it is important to recognize and respect the tremendous religious diversity in Arizona and throughout our nation; and

WHEREAS, the founders of our country were great men and women from many religious denominations, races, and cultures, who came here from all over the world to establish a country “with liberty and justice for all,” and the Christian faith is an integral part of this rich heritage which merits recognition; and

WHEREAS, the influence of America’s Christian Heritage is evident in the writings of Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, William Bradford, Abigail Adams, James Madison, Patrick Henry, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, as well as countless documents and decrees; and

WHEREAS, Arizona continues to assimilate many different faiths, cultures and races, and such diversity is essential in maintaining and strengthening the rich and colorful fabric of our state and nation: and

WHEREAS, Arizona’s Christian Heritage Week will be celebrated by people of all walks of life who wish to send the message of unconditional love and the growing need for kindness and understanding among people throughout the country.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Janice K. Brewer, Governor of the State of Arizona, do hereby proclaim September 20-26, 2009 as

ARIZONA CHRISTIAN HERITAGE WEEK

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Arizona.

PROCLAMATION

“ARIZONA’S CHRISTIAN HERITAGE WEEK”

WHEREAS, Arizona’s landscape is a beautiful reminder of God’s good work, and our diverse culture symbolizes his love for all people; and

WHEREAS, we, as a united people, celebrate the important role that our forefathers have played in the development of our culture; and

WHEREAS, the influence of America’s Christian Heritage is evident in the writings of William Bradford, John and Abigail Adams, James Madison, Patrick Henry, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, as well as countless public documents and decrees; and

WHEREAS,  Arizona’s Christian Heritage Week will be celebrated by people of all walks of life who wish to promote the message of unconditional love and the growing need for kindness and decency among all people throughout the country; and

WHEREAS, Thanksgiving is an ideal time to celebrate the contributions that our forefathers have made to our rich culture and strong heritage;

NOW, THEREFORE, I Jane Dee Hull, Governor of the State of Arizona, do hereby proclaim November 22 through 28, 1998 as

“ARIZONA’S CHRISTIAN HERITAGE WEEK”

and urge all citizens of Arizona to recognize and observe this week.
